Brain Fog
During menopause, many women experience a common symptom known as "brain fog". This cognitive difficulty can manifest as forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, and mental confusion. The hormonal changes that occur during menopause are thought to be the primary cause of this foggy feeling. Estrogen, a hormone that plays a significant role in brain function, decreases during menopause. This decrease can affect neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and dopamine, which are responsible for regulating mood, memory, and cognitive function. Additionally, sleep disturbances and hot flashes that often accompany menopause can further contribute to brain fog. While brain fog can be frustrating, there are strategies women can employ to alleviate the symptoms. These may include regular exercise, a nutritious diet, stress management techniques, and hormone therapy if necessary.
